Lisa Marie Presley Was Working On A Memoir Before She Passed Away
Lisa Marie Presley was only nine years old when her father, Elvis Presley, died on August 16, 1977. Throughout her life, she never talked much about her loss or how she felt on that tragic day.
But she planned to open up about her grief in a memoir. She started working on the project before her own death on January 12, 2023.
After Lisa died, her oldest daughter, actress Riley Keough, picked up the memoir to finish it in her memory. The book, From Here to the Great Unkown , releases on October 8.
Riley told PEOPLE she spent countless hours listening to her mother’s old audio tapes containing recollections of her life and career. Those tapes helped Riley fill in the blanks in her mother’s memoir.

Riley Keough Shares What Her Mom, Lisa Marie, Remembered About The Day That Elvis Died
To go along with the memoir’s release, Riley sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey that will air on Tuesday (October 8) at 8 PM on CBS. A preview of the interview shows Riley sharing what Lisa remembered about the day Elvis died.
As Riley revealed, her mom got the feeling that something was wrong before Elvis passed away.
“ I think this was the first time she’s ever talked in detail about his death… ” Riley said, before continuing. “ …she said ‘goodnight’ to him, and I think she knew, saying ‘goodnight,’ like she had some kind of a sense…I think she had a sense many times that he wasn’t okay, you know? “
Riley added:
“She would tell me that sometimes she would find him in his bathroom looking kind of out of it, or holding onto the railing to stand up straight. She also wrote these letters when she was little, that we have, kind of saying ‘I hope my daddy doesn’t die.’ So there was some kind of sense there.”
