You would think that having Niall Horan, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani onstage together would be enough vocal firepower for a show, but The Voice had to take it to the next level by adding country legend Reba McEntire. You might just be blown away hearing what she did to the Eagles classic “Take It Easy,” as she made it sound like the hit was written just for her!
Hearing Horan and Legend open the 1972 hit was a real treat, as despite country rock not exactly being their forte, the pair blew the doors off! Stefani is married to Blake Shelton, and it seems like all her duets with him paid off as she now sounds perfectly at home crooning on a country tune. Needless to say, the big moment came when McEntire finally took the lead vocal, and she then brought the house down by singing the chorus together with the other three stars.
Another great element to the performance was seeing just how much fun everyone was having. The four stars definitely knew they were in a special moment and were making the most of it. It was also really interesting to hear just how well the four singers worked together vocally, as they all come from very different musical backgrounds. The video was uploaded on September 23, 2023, and proved to be quite popular with viewers, who tuned in 3.6 million times on YouTube.
Fans watching at home enjoyed the live collab and added comments such as “Niall and Reba who knew they would sound so good together! Absolutely love this collaboration!” and “I wish there was a way to see how many times I’ve played this video, this is pure musical chemistry displayed perfectly with a song that everyone knows. Truly a remarkable performance.” Reba teamed up again with Legend earlier this year to sing Jackie DeShannon’s “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” on The Voice.
Eagles frontman Glenn Frey wrote “Take It Easy” with Jackson Browne, and the song became the band’s debut single on May 1, 1972. Frey sang lead vocals on “Take It Easy,” and the song was also included as the opening track on the Eagles’ self-titled debut album.
The single peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and in the years since has become one of the Eagles’ signature songs. It has also been featured on all their compilation and live releases.
