The great Jeff Beck is now passed on, but his old buddies Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and Eric Clapton still remember the good times. The trio of rock royalty teamed up to pay tribute to their friend on a smokin’ live cut of Stewart’s song “Infatuation,” which originally featured Beck on guitar – and you definitely want to tune in for the jam. The group tore the roof off The Royal Albert Hall on May 22, 2023, at a tribute concert for the guitar legend, which was organized by Clapton and Beck’s wife.
Stewart and Wood were founding members of The Jeff Beck Group all the way back in 1967. They’ve both since become two of the biggest selling artists of all time, as a soloist and in the Rolling Stones respectively. But the lads haven’t forgotten their roots, and they sure haven’t forgotten how to rock the stage either. The group laid down a hella funky groove, and Stewart does not disappoint with his signature raspy voice on the mic either.
Beck passed away on January 10, 2023, and by the time of the concert, Stewart still couldn’t quite believe it. Before the song he said, “I never thought I’d be here playing a concert like this in tribute to my dear old pal Jeff Beck. But we’re here, and we’re gonna do him proud.” He then noted that the band had only had an hour’s rehearsal before hitting the stage so things could get a little dicey, but of course, with the likes of Wood and Clapton up there, the band nailed every single note.
Fans loved to see the rock icons play together one more time for their old mate, and added comments such as “No gimmicks, just old rockers doing what they still love. Raw, natural and awesome. More please” and “This incredible group of musicians did Beck more than proud. What a tribute, each one alone is wonderful – together they are magnificent.” Later in the show, the trio of rockers was joined by Gary Clark Jr. on “People Get Ready,” which Beck and Stewart scored a minor hit with in 1985.
Stewart released “Infatuation” as the lead single of his 1984 studio album Camouflage. Beck provided guitar on the song and also appeared in the music video. The song peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100, and at number 27 on the UK Singles Chart.
