Dua Lipa and Elton John are on the cusp of going viral after delivering a triumphant performance at Dua’s gig in London last night. Singing the track ‘Cold Heart’, Dua swept to the front of the stage in an eye-catching black gown, and it seemed at first that she was going to be performing the song alone. Then, in an explosion of music and lights she announced her special guest, “a man who needs no introduction, Elton John!” sending the audience into a frenzy of screams and cheers.
In a brilliant twist, the huge crowd of backing singers onstage then parted to reveal Elton holding a microphone. He and Dua then proceeded to do what they do best – put on a highly entertaining performance that got the audience on their feet and dancing. Although Elton was sitting down for the rendition, he was still clearly loving the atmosphere, with Dua dancing energetically next to him and bringing those good vibes.
Fans of Dua’s and Elton’s will probably already be familiar with the track that the pair performed last night; released over lockdown in 2021, ‘Cold Heart’ is technically a remix of four of Elton’s songs, featuring both the ‘Rocket Man’ himself and Dua on lead vocals, alongside a cool dance beat that was added by production trio Pnau. The song was a huge hit worldwide, topping the charts in 13 countries, so it’s little wonder it went down such a storm at the Royal Albert Hall last night.
The duo’s wonderful chemistry onstage, meanwhile, means that it should come as no surprise that Elton and Dua have performed this particular track onstage together numerous times before. One particularly notable performance came back in 2022 when Dua joined Elton at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, with Dua once again looking elegant in a sleek black dress and Elton looking iconic in a sparkly dressing gown!
Indeed, ‘iconic’ is exactly how you could sum up Elton and Dua’s duet of ‘Cold Heart’ in recent years. Despite their clear differences in age and style, the pair’s chemistry onstage is off the charts, and even though Elton has now officially retired from touring, no doubt there are thousands of fans all over the world hoping that he will continue to pop up at Dua’s concerts to perform this great track.
