Dan + Shay Honor Brenda Lee With “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” In Rockefeller Center
Music’s Biggest Stars Gather For The 2024 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Dan + Shay were literally “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” when they performed at the 92nd annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 4th.
The 2024 ceremony featured an all-star lineup of singers, including Jennifer Hudson, Little Big Town, The Backstreet Boys, Coco Jones, and more. Plus, the event was hosted by Kelly Clarkson, who also performed multiple songs.

Former Voice coaches Dan + Shay were also part of the lineup. The duo just released their first Christmas album, Officially Christmas, earlier this year.
Dan + Shay performed two songs during the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony. They sang “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “Rockin’ Around the Chrismas Tree.”
Both songs are featured on their Officially Christmas album.
Dan + Shay Bring Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” To Rockefeller Center
Since the Rockefeller celebration was centered around its stunning Christmas tree, it only made sense that someone sang Brenda Lee’s iconic song about one!
Lee was only 13 years old when she recorded “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” in 1958. While the song was not a smash success upon its initial release, its popularity grew over time.
Today, it’s sold the 4th-most digital downloads of any Christmas single. It re-enters the charts every holiday season, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 just last year (2023).
2023 was also the song’s 65th anniversary. Lee released her first-ever music video to mark the occasion.
This year (2024), the state of Tennessee named “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” its official holiday song.
Dan + Shay honored Lee’s legacy by singing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at Rockefeller Center. They kept true to Lee’s original rendition, delivering a fun and lively performance celebrating the holiday season.
