Original Von Trapp Children Surprise Julie Andrews with Emotional ‘Do-Re-Mi’ Singalong 57 Years After ‘The Sound of Music’, Recreating the Magic of the Classic Film in a Heartwarming Reunion.

The Sound of Music has become a cultural phenomenon since its release in 1965. This beloved musical film, based on the real-life von Trapp family, tells the heartwarming story of a spirited governess who brings music and joy into a family’s life amidst the backdrop of World War II.

Winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it became one of the most successful musicals in history. Its songs, like “Do-Re-Mi” and “My Favorite Things,” remain iconic worldwide.

57 years after The Sound of Music premiered, Dame Julie Andrews was treated to a touching musical reunion. Five of the original Von Trapp children cast members came together to serenade her, recreating the magic of the beloved film.

Nicholas Hammond, who played Friedrich, began the performance with the opening line of “Do-Re-Mi,” one of the film’s most iconic songs.

As the AFI Life Achievement Award presentation for Julie Andrews began, the night turned magical when her “Sound of Music” on-screen children surprised her.

“Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start,” Hammond said, as Andrews saw and smiled at the five actors standing on stage, nodding in approval.

Andrews welcomed the group as they started a heartfelt rendition of “Do-Re-Mi.” The Dolby Theatre erupted with joy as Andrews led the audience in a singalong, her iconic voice filling the room.

After a few moments, the five actors joined in with their original parts, while walking over to their on-screen governess.

For devoted fans of “The Sound of Music”, this union is special and emotional. One fan said, “Just WOW! This is the ultimate for me. My heart is in my throat. This musical, the story but also THE most amazing songs. They make you want to sing so hard with such passion your heart wants to burst from your chest….’like a lark who is learning to pray’”
