In many sports-loving households, watching the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game every year is a tradition. Along with the game, fans also look forward to the star-studded halftime show that comes along with it.
Country star Lainey Wilson has been announced as this year’s halftime performer.
The secret’s out! The iconic @laineywilson and a special guest will ring in The @SalvationArmyUS’s famous #RedKettleKickoff at the Dallas Cowboys halftime show this Thanksgiving on @NFLonFOX. Are you ready for this “Whirlwind” of a night?
Her performance was confirmed on Sunday, October 13, by Wilson herself when she announced the news live from the sidelines of AT&T Stadium before the second half of the Cowboys’ game against the Detroit Lions.
Not only did Wilson announce that she would be taking the stage on Thanksgiving Day, but she also teased that a special, unnamed guest would be joining her.
“This Thanksgiving, right here, on this field, me and a special guest performing the halftime show for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Kickoff,” Wilson said. “It’s going to be a party.”
Country artists have often participated in the special holiday halftime show. Last year, Dolly Parton stole the spotlight as the halftime performer, going viral as the 78-year-old wowed millions of viewers in a customized Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfit. She performed “Jolene” and “9 to 5” before transitioning into her covers of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You.”
“Well, first of all, ain’t nobody’s going to top Dolly Parton,” Wilson joked when asked what fans can expect from her upcoming performance. “When she walked out of there in that outfit, I was like, ‘my girl, my girl.”
Even though Dolly’s performance may be tough to beat, Wilson assures fans that they will be surprised by what she has in store.
“We’re getting it ready, y’all. I’m so excited for y’all to see what we’ve been working on. It’s some of the hits. You’re going to be surprised. It’s going to keep you on your toes, is all I’m going to say.”
