You only need 2 natural ingredients! How to clean a gas stove

It’s no surprise that your stovetop can get dirty very quickly. If you’re like most of us, you cook every day. And that means splatters of oil, grease, or food debris are sure to be all over your stovetop. It goes without saying that you should clean your stove every day, giving it a good wipe down. But every once in a while, it’s time to give it a deep clean and get into all the nooks and crannies that might be hiding germs and dirt. Of course, you would want to do it the right way to ensure that you not only clean it properly, but also that you don’t damage your stove. In fact, a greasy pan can even pose a fire hazard, so it’s imperative to clean it properly! Here’s how to do it!

Why You Should Clean Your Stove Gas Burners

A dirty stovetop can lead to uneven heating and weaker flames, and it can even be a fire hazard. A dirty environment can easily harbor germs, but there’s also a more practical reason why you should clean your stove’s gas burners regularly. Old grease on the top of the burner can burn during cooking and give off a bad odor. Not only that, but burned grease is also harder to clean. So the less you clean, the harder it will become to clean eventually.

Tips
Don’t use your fancy kitchen vinegar to clean your stove’s gas burners. Regular white vinegar (distilled) will do the trick.

Be sure to clean all parts of the stove: the gas cooktop grates, the gas cooktop burners, and the gas cooktop surface.

Microfiber cloths work well for wiping down the stove.

Some manufacturers suggest turning off your gas valve before cleaning it.

If there is food debris stuck in the crevices, use a piece of cardboard to push it out. You might be tempted to use a toothpick, but it could break and clog the burners.

It is important to dry the parts thoroughly after cleaning to prevent rust.

Notes
Always read your stove manufacturer’s user manual carefully before starting.

Boil water in a saucepan. You can also boil the water in a kettle, then pour it into a large bowl. Pour the vinegar into the water.

Carefully remove the parts (burner caps and heads) from the range. Place the pieces in the vinegar water and let them soak in the water for 1 hour. This will soften the dirt and make cleaning easier.

Take a toothbrush and apply baking soda to the burner parts. Brush well. Rinse and dry the parts with a soft cloth.

Replace the clean parts and enjoy your new, clean stove.
